An ancient softness of January...
Resisting the Rush of the New Year to Honor Rest, Reflection, and Gentle Beginnings..
January always feels like the world is rushing ahead, but I’ve learned to lean into the stillness instead. For me, it’s a time to move slowly, reflect deeply, and let new beginnings take shape in their own time.
I would love it if we could stay connected! If this is your first time here, then if you feel the call why not drop your email below so you will receive next season’s email?
January arrives like a deep breath after the intensity of the holidays, yet so often, we’re pushed to jump straight into the rush of resolutions, fresh starts, and lofty goals. It’s as if the whole world is shouting, “Hurry up! Start strong!” But maybe January is less about rushing forward and more about slowing down, letting yourself settle into the new year at your own pace.
Winter, especially in January, feels like a natural pause - time for quiet reflection and steady preparation. The earth herself seems to move slowly, blanketed in frost, the days still short and soft. There’s a quiet invitation here to resist the pressure to “do it all” right away and instead ease into your goals, emerging gently.
In this slow emergence, we can look inward to recognize what we want to carry into the year ahead. There’s no need to force growth or big changes all at once; real transformation is patient, often beginning in the quiet, hidden spaces of our minds and hearts. January’s true gift is this unhurried time to dream, plan, and gradually gather our energy for the months ahead.
So this January, let’s ignore society's hurry and trust the power of a slower beginning. Let’s honour the time it takes to nurture real intentions, letting them grow and take root as the light slowly returns. We’ll emerge from this season in our own way and in our own time, carrying forward a steady, sustainable energy that feels true to us.
